The Fashion

Harajuku * Kawaii * Lolita * Cosplay * Visual Kei Fashion & Events

The Harajuku-Lolita's Union is a make up of a variety of different fashion scenes that share similarities with each other. Much of our fashion is out of Japan, represented by popular Anime, Manga, and underground Japanese subcultures throughout the world. Despite their contrasts, each style has similar elements which compliment each other, making our Union possible.

Due to many misconceptions on what our group is, I am now writing a guide on what each style is. Despite what some people may think, the style and fashion is safe for all ages, from the very young to the very old. The "fetish" people believe lolita is is no more than a misconception of what this lifestyle is truly about.

Lolita (ロリータ)
Lolita is a subculture of a doll-like, Neo-Victorian conservative style of dress originating from the streets of Japan. The style is represented by a bell-shape gowns and petticoats inspired from the Victorian age and style of dress. Lolita is enjoyed by all genders and all walks of life, and a style called Ouji is often worn by men who enjoy Lolita. In the states, men who crossdress as Lolita are known as "brolitas" and make up just as much of the society as females do.

Harajuku
Harajuku is a street style originating from the streets outside Harajuku Station in Shibuya, Japan. While Western curiosity may have come from Gwen Stefani's 2004 album "Love Angel Music Baby," it certainly didn't begin or start with her. Harajuku adopts tends from Lolita, Decora, Mori Girl, and cosplay and is really a mixed fashion of various states and patterns. It is hard to describe Harajuku in it's entirety, as it is constantly changing.

Visual Kei
Visual Kei is a primarily goth and punk look originating out of Japan. It's style of dress is inspired by bands which add imagery to their vocals by dressing up in elaborate and intricate costumes. Bands such as Versailles, Acid Black Cherry, and The Gazette are well known for their Visual Kei rock and punk rock albums accompanied by beautiful gowns to add a visual impact to their artistry.
